Nana, what should we get for gifts for Parents/Grandparents this year?
Oh yes, the problem that arises every Christmas season. Nana and Gramps are at that stage of life where they seem to get whatever it is they need.
Of course, the thing that they both want more than anything is the gift of your time. Visits are so very important – more so than physical gifts. And that’s the hardest gift for parents/grandparents for you to give. You’re at that busy time of your life, trying so hard to fit in all that you need to do to keep your family organized and going. Finding an hour here or there is very difficult, as much as you enjoy your visits with them.
What are some personal gifts for Parents/Grandparents?
Take a good look at how your parents/grandparents are living. What things are needed? Is the heat always turned up? Maybe sweaters are a choice.
Even though he’s never gone, couple pedicures are another suggestion. Is there a spa in the area that accommodates men and women?
(All links in this post are affiliate links and I receive a small compensation if you click on them and make a purchase. This does not affect the price you pay. I only recommend products that I believe will be helpful. I have not tried all of them, but do rely on the recommendations of people I trust.)
Are there hobbies they are interested in? Items or gift certificates to help them expand and enjoy those activities would be welcome.
Or do they have a favorite author? Maybe the latest book would be enjoyed.
If you have financial means, there are a plethora of electronics they might enjoy. Do they have computers, printers, tablets, Kindles, smartphones, shredders, security devices, chargers, ad infinitum?
Or lessons to improve their use of some of them.
And speaking of gift certificates, they are always a welcome gift for parents/grandparents. Amazon gift certificates have amazing offers. I’m sure there is something online they would like to splurge on.
What are some physical house gifts for parents/grandparents?
What new appliances are out there this year that are suitable for two? Cooking pots and pans that hold small amounts are also a suggestion. Here again, a gift certificate can be helpful. Is it time for new dishes or glassware?
What are some gifts for parents/grandparents that would make their life easier?
How about what they are eating? Maybe the gift of homemade meals in the freezer might be appreciated.
Or the gift of a meal to something like BlueApron.com might be a choice this year.
Another suggestion is to consider the gift of cleaning services. A day of some deep cleaning might be a boon. Or dryer vent cleaning. What about painting a room? Or cleaning carpets? Or cleaning the air ducts?
Or do they need some extensive yard work? Hiring someone to do things outdoors might be welcome. Cleaning gutters; washing siding; tree removal or pruning; mowing services are just a few needs they may have.
In Conclusion –
Wrapping up these suggestions – if you have siblings, now would be a good time to talk with them. Together you might be able to come up with suggestions that you could all chip in and give together. Whatever you give, know that it will be appreciated. Parents/grandparents love to know you are caring and thinking about them. They also understand that gifts for your children have to take priority and in no way do they want you to incur debt because of gifts to them. Most of all, enjoy this time of year.
