Review of Step 1: Should you Start a Blog?
Okay. You found out that writing is enjoyable and yes, you were able to sit down and write every day for a week or two. You’re ready for Step 2 in Starting Your Blog – Exploring Topics and Titles.
Off on an Adventure
I’m going to send you off site for a short read. It’s going to be totally different advice than anything you will find anywhere else on the web. I only wish I had read it before I started my blog and now that I’ve read it, I may make some changes here. So, here’s the link. Just please come back and read some more here when you finish? Click here and enjoy.
Step 2 – Starting Your Blog
Did you enjoy Sarah’s advice? Different than what you expected?
I like her advice for a variety of reasons. Until you actually start a blog, you really don’t know what readers want. You may have an idea of what you want to write about, and that’s fine. Don’t be afraid to do that. That’s what I did here. I had my list of things I thought I knew something about and that my information might have value to others, so that’s how I started the blog.
Nana Starts to Stray
But, if you look around my site, you’ll see I diverged a bit – like writing about blogging here. Sharing my journey might help someone else take the opportunity to blog. (See – I’m staying on my main topic of Opportunity.) And that’s fine and fits in with the theme. You don’t have to lock yourself into a single place.
And Strays Some More
Well, what about Nana’s Opportunities? Oh yes – that section. After a lifetime of being a mother, wife, as well as a nurse, there were tidbits that I thought might be helpful to others. After all, age does bring with it some learning and I love sharing. So I just added that whole section on to the theme of Opportunity. I must admit, until I read Sarah’s post, I did feel a tad guilty that I wasn’t doing things the “RIGHT WAY”. LOL
God Helps Out
Now I know that the right way is doing it “MY WAY” or maybe I should say “GOD’S WAY” because He’s the one that gave me my brain and all my ideas, plus the ability to write. And yes, my way includes a dose of bringing God into my writing. It would be very hard to leave Him out because He’s given me this life and been with me every step of the way, every day and continues to be my greatest mentor in all that I do.
Call to Action
You thought you’d leave here without homework? HaHa. You should know Nana better than that. Let’s see what you should do now. You have your goal(s) written out, you have that Idea list that you’re still adding to, and you’ve gotten into the habit of writing. Keep doing all those things. They need to be habits if you’re going to blog. Now, it’s time to start thinking about a name for your blog. Sarah suggested you use your name or like Nana a pseudonym that doesn’t describe the blog as much as the author. Try out your names or title ideas here to see if they are available. You want your blog to end in ‘.com’ as that’s the ending readers are most familiar with. Don’t register the name yet. Most hosts will include that in the fee for hosting. Let us know what you chose for a name and topic(s) to write on in the comments below.
In addition, you might want to browse through the list of websites that I use on an everyday basis to keep this blog up and running. Click here to get my post on Current Websites I Use and Expenses.
Scripture for today:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those that love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)
